Home Sweet Taunton

Welcome to my home to town of Taunton, MA aka "The Silver City" (if you have silver at home check where it was made). Taunton, founded in 1637, is an old working class small city centrally located between Boston and Providence in southeastern Massachusetts rich with history and filled with crude New Englanders. The city is the seat of Bristol county and was once a center of industry, architecture, entertainment and government....but that was 100 years ago. Unfortunately, over the decades, the local economy has declined and the city has yet to revive back to the booming municipality it once was before the second world war.

Hopefully these few photos will give a small peek into my fair city.

Photo of Reed & Barton which is a silver factory dating back to 1822. Reed & Barton is one of the oldest silver factories in the country and it's stil in operation.

River adjacent to Reed & Barton....notice the coloration of the water. Who said pollution wasn't beautiful?

Downtown Taunton....looking at city hall. Notice the old signs painted on the top wall of the brick building on the right

In the middle of downtown if you look real hard, you will find a small public park tucked in at the site of a building that burnt down. It seemed as though no one ever uses it.....or cleans it! Really a shame.

If you're ever traveling through southeastern Massachusetts be sure to stop by Taunton for a hot linguica sandwich and a cold frappe. But don't ever ask directions or say hello to anyone because the locals see that as a sign of weakness :).
